About the Artist :
My works are an exploration of the language of the images used by children along with the experience and nostalgia of my childhood memories. I work on the problem-free and fun-filled domain of childhood. My language may be naive but it very comfortably suits my theme. I have used images of toys, cars, house, and human figures etc. which resemble a child’s world of transition. I have used these images in my work because I feel that they comfortably suit my language. I keep the identities of each object intact and have not given them any new identity, I just play with the form, where a car is a car but it can be shown in many different forms.
By using such images I have given them a new meaning and identity. In my work, I have simply arranged the objects; these objects do not have any direct resemblance to reality. I made whatever came to my mind and never went for any justifications. The images and stories have all been taken from reality but the execution and characterization where done by me as per my imagination.
The space division and colours are a part of what I believed and still continue, to be my fantasy world. Working with different mediums brought different reactions in my works where I came to know of the possibilities of each medium. The medium I love to work with most is Colagraph, where I get to play with textures created in the surface, along with the forms of different objects. I also love exploring the ‘mix media’, where I usually combine pen & ink drawing with soft pastels, collage, water colours etc. I also like working in the other printmaking media such as Lithograph, Woodcut, Linocut, Intaglio (Emboss) etc.
Toys resemble a child’s delineation and that is why I have connected a child with toys- to show the carefree realm of childhood. My works let me free from the everyday world to a bigger, open space of joy, wonder and playfulness. I am inspired by Joan Miro and Dinkar Kaushik’s works. I like to draw random stuffs and then make out forms from them and use a little dash of colours or sometimes keep it monochrome. A search within me is still on and I follow my drawings to shape them up.
