The Opening Ceremony of the week long Art Exhibition 'ndia through the eyes of Dolna' was held on 19th October 2010 at 4pm at the IBL gallery at Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis. The evening was ignited with the auspicious lamp by luminaries: Honorable
Nandcoomar Bodha, Minister of Tourism & Leisure Mauritius, Dr. Karl Mootoosamy, Director Mauritius Tourism Promotion
Authority and Mr. Vijaye Haulder Deputy Director Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. The event was well attended by Mauritian artists, Connoisseurs of art, media and prominent socialites.
Dolna the brainchild of Ms. Mithu Basu believes that "Exposure through travel can fire the sensitive mind of artists to absorb and
reflect the diversity and distinctness of people and places and lend an artist's perspective to enchanting Mauritius and thus create
a universal language of art."
With this expedition Dolna will create a bank of paintings and photographs that reflect an Indian artist's perspective of the spirit of
Mauritius that goes beyond the sand, sea and surf. Various adaptations of the art would also be explored to design promotional
material for Mauritius. Road shows and participation in exhibitions would be leveraged to exhibit the artistic creations and position
Mauritius as the preferred destination for Indians to travel for either leisure, weddings, MICE or business.
"Mauritius is truly an artist's haven. It's a contrast of a multitude of colors and tastes. The island, set in its turquoise sea, is an
oasis of peace and tranquility. A melting pot where past and present smoothly blend together. Mauritius offers an essential beauty
that will compel you to return to its shores time and time again. The artists' expressions will engrave Mauritius in your memory
forever" says Dr. A. Karl Mootoosamy, Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.
