The Dolna Art Story

Dolna wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born in a moment.

While searching for a name that captured her desire to gently uplift artists — like the tender push of a child's swing — Mitu Basu shared her vision with designer Subrata Bhowmick. He responded: "In Bengali, that's called a Dolna."

The name deepened its resonance. Dolna was also Mitu's late mother — her fountainhead of beauty, creativity, and grace. "Let Dolna be a tribute to your mother," Subrata said. "With her blessings, let's begin."

He hand-scripted the logo, embedding Mitu's signature bindi into the 'O' — a mark of individuality, commitment, and distinctly Indian identity.

Today, Dolna Art is not just a brand. It's a living tribute to creativity, connection, and cultural depth.

In India, a gallery is still — for most families — an intimidating space. There is a gate, visible or invisible, that says: this is not for you.

Our answer was to go where families already are. Hotels. Clubs. Malls. Colleges. Courtyards. We were among the first to place art in malls — taking it out of exclusive spaces and into the path of everyday life.

Building an Address for Artists

Born into a Bengali family and raised in Mumbai, Mitu's journey has always been shaped by visual instinct, curiosity, and conviction. From advertising to design, publishing, and corporate communications, every chapter added a new lens - each one quietly preparing her for what would one day become Dolna Art.

The turning point came at Santiniketan. Surrounded by extraordinary artistic talent, she saw with rare clarity what was missing: a bridge between artists and opportunity.
