Rebalancing the Ecosystem
The Correction
The art market has long rewarded the past at the expense of the present. Auctions celebrate the dead. Galleries take 40-50% from the living. The traditional master and the self-taught visionary are left to negotiate alone against institutions that hold all the power.
DolnaArt is built to correct that. We place the living artist — creating now, contributing now — as the primary beneficiary of their own work's value. Not the institution. The artist.

Our Philosophy
The Living Collage
In an age where technology can replicate technique and AI can mimic mastery, we return to what machines cannot forge: the human hand, the thinking mind, the beating heart behind every brushstroke.
At DolnaArt, process matters as much as product. We create spaces where modern abstraction and ancient tribal lines overlap — where the self-taught visionary stands alongside the trained master, where genres dissolve and every authentic voice finds its moment.
We don't just curate art. We celebrate the irreplaceable act of human creation.

Mitu Basu
Artist. Curator. Founder.
I am an artist who understands what it means to create - the vulnerability of putting your work into the world, the uncertainty of whether it will find its home, the quiet hope that someone will truly see what you've made.
From Advertising to Art - A Chequered Life
I began as an Art Director and Copywriter in advertising. That dual training - visual thinking and the precision of language - shaped everything that followed. From advertising I moved into publishing: as Art Director of Cine Blitz, one of India's most-read film magazines, I learned how visual storytelling creates culture at scale. I handled accounts including the World Gold Council and Johnson & Johnson.
I spent significant years with The Leela Group of Hotels as Corporate General Manager Communications - heading four verticals simultaneously: PR, Design, Marketing Communications, and Publishing. That experience gave me something rare: the ability to hold creative vision and institutional rigour in the same hand. I know how brands think, how hotels make decisions, and how to build programmes that work at scale without losing their soul.
The Turning Point
I went to Santiniketan on study leave to hone my skills in fine art. I arrived expecting to deepen my practice. What I found changed my direction entirely.
"I saw artists of extraordinary ability navigating a system that gave them almost nothing back. I had a network, experience across every relevant discipline, and no more excuses to stay on the sidelines."
I left The Leela. I began Dolna.
Unconventional Venues Philosophy
Art Belongs Where Families Gather
From the beginning, Dolna has never exhibited in a traditional gallery.
In India, a gallery is still - for most families - an intimidating space. You don't walk in with your children on a Sunday afternoon. There is a gate, visible or invisible, that says: this is not for you.
Dolna's answer has always been to go where families already are. Hotels, clubs, malls, colleges, courtyards. We were among the first to place art in malls - taking it out of exclusive spaces and into the path of everyday life. Every venue since has followed the same instinct: meet the audience where they are.
"The goal was never to make art accessible in theory. It was to put it somewhere children would see it, ask questions about it, and grow up knowing it was for them."
Every Dolna event is designed so that a first-time visitor and a seasoned collector stand in the same room, equally welcome.
The Dolna Objective
Dolna is a premier art-resource platform dedicated to the strategic evolution of the Indian art market. By championing the living artist and integrating traditional mastery into the contemporary mainstream, we facilitate a fair, transparent, and high-energy ecosystem that reflects the true value of India's creative intelligence on the global stage.
